SYRACUSE, N.Y., –
Maggie Knott tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team to a 4-2 win over Syracuse on Friday at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Vilma Tanskanen and Rachael Marmen had the Lakers' other goals. Single assists were credited to
Alexa Vasko,
Emma Nuutinen,
Summer-Rae Dobson, Liliane Perrault,
Megan Korzack and
Sarah Nelles.
Jessica Digirolamo and Lauren Bellefontaine recorded goals for Syracuse (0-2-0, 0-1-0 CHA).
After a scoreless first period, Tanskanen capitalized on the power play to get Mercyhurst (1-4-0, 1-0-0 CHA) on the board at 9:46 of the second period. Vasko had the lone assist.
One minute and nineteen seconds later Syracuse tallied a power play goal to make it 1-1. The tying goal was scored by Digirolamo with assists from Bellefontaine and Abby Moloughney.
With ten seconds to go in the second period, Knott scored her first goal of the game to put Mercyhurst back on top. Nuutinen and Dobson had assists.
Knott picked up her second goal of the game at 6:18 of the third period to extend the Lakers' lead 3-1. Perrault recorded her first collegiate assist, Korzack also added an assist.
Syracuse came back within one when Bellefontaine converted on the power play from Digirolamo and Brooke Avery.
Marmen scored at 12:05 of the third period to end the game in a 4-2 victory for Mercyhurst. Nelles recorded her first collegiate assist, Knott had the other assist.
Winning goaltender
Sarah McDonnell made 23 saves while Maddi Welch stopped 25 shots for Syracuse.
Mercyhurst went 1-for-5 on the power play while Syracuse finished 2-for-4.
Both teams are back in action Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
