Ticket Information
DAY PASS: SATURDAY

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team tied second-ranked Notre Dame, 6-6, in a semifinal game of the Ice Breaker, presented by LECOM, on Friday at the Erie Insurance Arena. Ultimately, the Lakers (0-1-1) fell in a shootout, 1-0, but the game will officially register as a tie per NCAA rules.

Taylor Best had two goals and two assists for Mercyhurst. Derek Barach, Steven Ipri, Joshua Lammon and Josh McDougall also had goals.

Joseph Duszak had a playmaker, totaling three assists, while Barach, McDougall and Dalton Hunter added two helpers each. Owen Norton also had an assist.

The contest was a back-and-forth affair as Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead before the Lakers went up 2-1. After the Fighting Irish (0-0-1) tied the game at 2-all, Mercyhurst scored two straight to take a 4-2 advantage. UND then scored three straight and led 5-4 and 6-5; the Lakers tied the contest each time.

McDougall's goal tied the game at 1-1 and then Best put Mercyhurst in the lead, 2-1, before Notre Dame tied the game with 48 seconds remaining in the first period.

Forty-nine seconds into the second period, Best gave MU the lead again and then Barach extended to gap to 4-2 later in the second.

Notre Dame then rattled off three straight goals, including two power-play goals by Cal Burke during a five-minute man-advantage.

Lammon tipped home a Duszak slap shot on the power play with 9:08 remaining in the third, knotting the contest at 5-5.

Burke completed a hat trick with 6:05  left before Steven Ipri connected with his game-tying goal with 4:01 remaining.

Neither team scored in overtime, which set the stage for a three-round shootout. Bobby Nardella took Notre Dame's third shot and had the only goal in the shootout.

Laker goaltender Colin DeAugustine totaled 42 saves and Notre Dame goalie Cale Morris had 25 stops.

Notre Dame went 3 for 8 on the power play while Mercyhurst was 1 for 4.

The Lakers will return to action on Saturday in the Ice Breaker consolation game against Miami (Ohio). The Irish will take on fourth-ranked Providence in the championship game. Providence defeated Miami, 4-0, on Friday.
