GREENSBURG, Pa. — Clare Ahern scored two goals for the Mercyhurst field hockey team as it earned its third win of the season, defeating Seton Hill, 4-0, in PSAC action on Wednesday at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.
Alexis Skibitsky and Hayley Skidmore also had goals for the Lakers (3-9, 1-3), who secured their first lead win of the season. Skidmore, Leah Rogers and Alexandria Shumsky were credited with assists.
In goal, netminder Libby Jones stopped two shots.
After the contest went into halftime tied at 0-0, Ahern tallied the first goal in the 42nd minute.
Skidmore tacked on Mercyhurst's second goal in the 53rd, deflecting a shot by Rogers, before Ahern extended the lead to 3-0 with a feed from Skidmore.
Skibitsky finished out the scoring in the 64th, getting an assist from Shumsky.
For host SHU (0-10, 0-4), Emma Jorgensen had nine saves in goal.
The Lakers outshot the Griffins by a total of 17-3. Mercyhurst held the edge in corners, 4-3
The Lakers will return to action on Oct. 20 with a 12 p.m. PSAC contest at Millersville.
