Men's Ice Hockey To Host Ice Breaker Tournament

The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will host #2 Notre Dame, #5 Providence, and Miami of Ohio for the prestigious NCAA Icebreaker Tournament on Oct. 12-13 at the Erie Insurance Arena.

Tournament Schedule
Friday, October 12th:
#5 Providence College vs. Miami University at 4:00 p.m.
#2 University of Notre Dame vs. Mercyhurst at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 13th:
Consolation Game at 4:00 p.m.
Championship Game at 7:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Mercyhurst will look to bounce back this weekend after falling to Bowling Green in their opening game of the season. The Lakers were led by forwards Matthew Whittaker and James Anderson with a goal and an assist each in the 8-2 loss.
 
Scouting Notre Dame
Notre Dame ended last season with a 28-10-2 record. It fell in the National Championship Title Game to Minnesota-Duluth.
 
The Fighting Irish are coming off of a 4-1 exhibition loss to the U.S. National Team Development Program on Oct. 7.
 
Colin Thiesen scored the lone goal for Notre Dame. Cale Morris made ten saves while Dylan St. Cyr ended with 15 saves.
 
Notre Dame has played in four Ice Breaker Tournaments, hosting in 2014. They Fighting Irish won the tournament in 2012.
 
The Lakers and Fighting Irish have met four times with the Fighting Irish going 4-0-0.
 
Scouting Providence
Providence ended last season with a 24-12-4 record.

The Friars are coming off of a 3-1 win over American International.

Scott Conway, Greg Printz and Jacob Bryson scored goals while Hayden Hawkey made 18 saves in net.

This will be the second time Providence has played in the Ice Breaker Tournament.

The Lakers and Friars have never met in program history.
 
Scouting Miami (Ohio)
The Red Hawks ended last season with a 14-20-5 record.

Miami comes into the weekend riding a sweep of Alabama-Huntsville. The Red Hawks won 5-1 and 4-0.

Karch Bachman tallied two goals while Carter Johnson, Geordie Green, Derek Daschke, Grant Hutton, River Rymsha, Josh Melnick and Ryan Siroky scored one goal each.

Jordan Uhelski made 17 saves on Friday before Ryan Larkin made 11 on Saturday.

This marks the second Ice Breaker Tournament for the Red Hawks.

The Lakers and Red Hawks have never met.

This is the second Ice Breaker Tournament for the Lakers.

Anderson and Whittaker lead the Lakers with one goal and one assist each. Ethan Johnson and Michael Bevilacqua have one assist each.
 
Next Up
The Lakers will travel to Ferris State University for a two game weekend series on Oct. 19-20. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights
