COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team lost to the Air Force Academy, 5-1, in Atlantic Hockey action on Saturday at the Cadet Ice Arena. The Lakers finished the weekend with a split.
Jack Riley scored for Mercyhurst (8-10-2, 5-7-2) while
Les Lancaster and
Bryan Sienerth tallied assists.
Trevor Stone, Pierce Pluemer, Alex Mehnert, Zack Mirageas and Evan Giesler scored for Air Force (9-10-3, 4-8-2).
During the first period, Air Force took an early lead when Stone scored at 3:47. Jake Levin added an assist.
Forty-two seconds into the second period, Riley scored his eighth goal of the season to tie the game 1-1. Lancaster and Sienerth picked up assists.
Then, Air Force scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second period.
Air Force scored two goals in less than a minute to take a 3-1 lead. Pluemer scored with assists from Dylan Abood and Levin and then Mehnert capitalized on the power play 51 seconds later. Tyler Ledford and Erik Baskin had assists on the power-play goal.
With 19 seconds left in the second, Mirageas scored to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead. Kyle Mackey and Erich Jaeger tallied assists.
Late in the third, Giesler scored an empty-net goal for Air Force. He received an assist from Stone.
The Lakers finished 0-for-3 on the power play while the Falcons were 1-for-4.
Brandon Wildung stopped 19 shots before
Colin DeAugustine took over the Mercyhurst net at the start of the third period, making five saves.
Billy Christopoulos finished with 26 saves for Air Force.
Mercyhurst is back in action Jan. 12-13 when it hosts Niagara.
