Men's Basketball Struggles At IUP

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team suffered a 67-57 defeat to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday.

Lorenzo Collier was the Lakers' leading scorer, finishing with 19 points off the bench. Edvaldo Ferreira added 13 points and seven rebounds while Patrick Smith put in 10 points for MU (5-6, 2-5).

Host Indiana had five scorers in double-figures, including leader Willem Brandwijk, who had 15 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Glover (14), Malik Miller (13), Jacobo Diaz (12) and Dante Lombardi (11) added to the Crimson Hawks' offense.

The Hawks (10-4, 6-1) took a 9-0 lead to start the game and led the rest of the way. IUP led at halftime, 28-22. The Lakers closed their deficit to five points in the second half, but that was as close as they would come.

Mercyhurst struggled shooting the basketball, finishing 20 of 61 overall (32.8 percent) and 2 of 17 from three-point territory (11.8). The Lakers made 15 of 20 free throws (75.0). IUP was 25 of 48 (52.1), 6 of 19 (31.6) and 11 of 13 (84.6), respectively.

The Lakers did hold a 34-31 advantage in the rebound department.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Monday when it host PSAC opponent Clarion for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
