ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team extended its win streak to five games with a 5-1 victory over conference-opponent Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Mercyhurst (12-12-2) had five different goal scorers for the game, including Céline Frappier,
Maggie Knott,
Emma Nuutinen,
Vilma Tanskanen, and
Michele Robillard.
Molly Blasen and
Sarah Hine had two assists each.
Lindenwood (6-15-1) had its lone goal scored by Britannia Gillanders with assists to Courtney Ganske and Kirsten Martin.
The Lakers improved to 9-2-1 in conference play, maintaining its top position in the College Hockey America (CHA) standings.
Frappier got the Lakers off to a fast start with her fourth goal of the season 54 seconds in to the game. Knott tallied her ninth of the season at even strength to put the Lakers up 2-0 at 3:29 in the second period.
After a pair of Lindenwood penalties,
Emma Nuutinen scored on a five-on-three power play, her fifth goal of the season.
Down three at 16:52 in the third period, Lindenwood pulled goaltender Jolene de Bruyn for the extra attacker and Gillanders scored to get the Lions on the board. Lindenwood pulled de Bruyn again a few minutes later, but Tanskanen made LU pay with an empty-net goal at 18:59.
Robillard chipped in another Lakers' score 16 seconds later to bring the game to its 5-1 final score. Robillard's goal was her first of the season.
Sarah McDonnell earned her fifth straight win in goal to improve to 7-6-2 this season. She made 13 saves and has allowed just two goals in her last four games.
Mercyhurst travels to Syracuse next weekend for a pair of games Jan. 26-27. Puck drop Friday night will be at 7 p.m. with Saturday's game set to start at 3 p.m.
