Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team lost its first game in the last six tries in a 4-1 defeat against Syracuse Friday evening at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Céline Frappier was the Lakers' lone scorer.
Summer-Rae Dobson and
Samantha Fieseler picked up assists on the play.
Syracuse (9-14-2) jumped out to an early lead on Savannah Rennie's goal at 9:18 in the first period. Brooke Avery doubled Syracuse's advantage on the power play at 10:10 in the second period.
Mercyhurst (12-13-2) responded on Frappier's fifth goal of the season at 13:13 in the second. Dobson and Fieseler's assists were both their seventh of the campaign.
Syracuse bounced back on an unassisted goal by Alysha Burriss in the third period at 4:12. Stephanie Grossi finished the game with an empty-net goal with 13 seconds remaining to bring the game to its 4-1 final.
Mercyhurst outshot the Orange 27-17 for the game.
Sarah McDonnell made 13 saves in the loss.
Mercyhurst's record in College Hockey America play is now 9-3-1 while Syracuse improves to 8-4-1.
The Lakers look to bounce back tomorrow against Syracuse beginning at 3 p.m.
