Women's Ice Hockey Tallies Season-High Seven Goals In Win Over RIT

ERIE, Pa. – Seven different players scored goals for the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team in its 7-2 win against College Hockey America (CHA) opponent RIT Friday afternoon at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
 
The Lakers (9-12-2) picked up their sixth conference win of the season to improve their CHA-record to 6-2-1. Mercyhurst's seven goals were a season-high for the team.
 
Laker scorers included Brooke Hartwick (7), Emma Nuutinen (4), Jennifer MacAskill (4), Summer-Rae Dobson (6), Maggie Knott (7), Sam Isbell (4), and Rachel Marmen (1). 13 different Lakers recorded at least one point in the game, with Hartwick, Knott, and Sarah Hine as the only Mercyhurst players with multiple points.
 
RIT (4-16-2, 1-8-0) scored first just 36 seconds into the first period off the stick of Kendall Cornine. Hartwick tied the game at the 10:31 mark, but the Tigers responded at 17:39 to take a 2-1 lead on Brittany Gout's tally.
 
From there on, Mercyhurst dominated play until the final whistle. Nuutinen tied the game at 4:13 in the second period before MacAskill put the Lakers ahead on a redirect at 14:37. Dobson followed up the score with Mercyhurst's lone power-play marker at 16:33.
 
Knott and Isbell's scores early in the third period were scored just 19 seconds apart at 2:05 and 2:24. Marmen's goal at 6:08 was her first career goal with Mercyhurst.
 
Mercyhurst outshot RIT 50-10 for the game, including a 43-4 advantage over the last two periods. Kennedy Blair made eight saves to pick up her fifth win of the season.
 
The Lakers host the Tigers again tomorrow, Jan. 13, at Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
