Women's Soccer Staggered At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team could not overcome a three-goal deficit and lost 4-2 to undefeated Kutztown Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field.
 
The Lakers (2-4-3) dropped to 2-4-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play, while the second-ranked Golden Bears (10-0) improved their PSAC record to 8-0.
 
Kutztown drew first blood with two goals from Emily Zwiercan in the 29th minute of the first half and 19 seconds into the second half. The Golden Bears grew their lead to 3-0 on a goal from Kate Martin in the 61st minute.
 
Mercyhurst got on the board in the 72nd minute when Eileen Jakobi scored off a Anja Korte corner kick for her first goal of the season. After KU's Hannah Oren added another score to extend the Golden Bears' lead back to three, Maia Russo netted her first of the year in the 81st minute with an assist from Maria Vidal to bring the game to its eventual 4-2 final score.
 
Kutztown out-shot Mercyhurst 29-6 in the game including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. KU also had a stout lead in corner kicks 9-1. Vilde Wold made six saves in the loss.
 
Mercyhurst returns home for its next PSAC matchup against California (Pa.). They'll host the Vulcans on Wednesday, Oct. 4th beginning at 4 p.m.
