Korte's Two Early Goals Set Tone For Lakers' Win

ERIE, Pa. – Anja Korte scored her first two goals of the season to help the Mercyhurst women's soccer team defeat Pitt-Johnstown 3-1 at Mercyhurst Soccer field Sunday afternoon.

The Lakers (2-3-2) have won two of their last three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contests with a goal differential of 5-3 over that span.

Korte's two goals set the tone for the Lakers early in the first half. She netted her first goal on a two-on-one breakaway set up by Emilie Bock in the third minute. Korte followed up on her own shot to score on a rebound in the fifth minute to give Mercyhurst the early 2-0 advantage.

Bock picked up her third goal in in the last three games in the 34th minute with an assist from Maggie Hilton to extend Mercyhurst's lead to three.

UPJ (1-7-1) scored its lone goal in the 52nd minute courtesy of Brooke Vollemer.

Mercyhurst led in almost every offensive team category, including shots (21-4), shots on goal (9-2), and corner kicks (5-0).

The Lakers travel to Edinboro for their next PSAC contest on Wednesday, Sept. 27 starting at 6 p.m.
