ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team exploded for a program-record 13 goals in its 13-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown Sunday afternoon at Mercyhurst Soccer field.
The Lakers (6-2) broke their previous record of 12 goals in a game set twice. They scored 12 against Youngstown in 1978 in a 12-1 win and also scored 12 against Saginaw Valley in 1995 in a 12-0 shutout.
The win is also ties Mercyhurst's largest margin of victory (12) originally set in that 1995 Saginaw Valley game.
Hady Sarr had a career day setting the pace with five goals. He now has seven goals this season.
Fjodor van Kippersluis and
Christopher Makengo each scored twice.
Jakob Rodén had three assists for the game while Makengo added two more. |
Kyle Johnson netted his first goal as a Laker on a penalty kick in the 31
st minute. Additional Laker goal scorers included
Max Brill,
Mats Kreek, and
Hunter Burri.
UPJ (0-6-1) scored its lone goal in the 87
th minute off the foot of Taylor Sharlow.
Mercyhurst takes its three-game win streak to Salem International next Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
