SEAFORD Ny. – The Mercyhurst University field hockey team defeated non-conference opponent Molloy 5-0 on Sunday. The Lakers notch their third win of the season, moving onto a 3-4 overall record. Of the five goals scored four of them came in the first half, and each one was scored by a different Laker.
Mercyhurst was led by
Alexis Skibitsky, who found net on one of her four shots, she also recorded an assist.
Katie Lechner,
Paige Albright,
Bryna Cook, and
Jessica David all were able to post a goal each for the Lakers.
Clare Ahern, had two assists while
Christina Mertz,
Nicolette Tomani, each added one.
Cook opened up scoring for the game ten minutes into the first half, she was assisted by
Clare Ahern. Skibitsky's goal, assisted by Mertz, came just four minutes after in the fourteenth minute of play. Lechner would score in the twenty-fourth minute of play she was assisted by Tomani. Albright would find net with only three minutes left in the first half, she was assisted by Ahern. David would score the Lakers last goal 12 minutes into the second half she was assisted by Skibitsky.
The Lakers outshot Molloy posting a total of 27 shots, to the eight recorded by Molloy.
Victoria Triaga was the winning goalie for the contest, she posted one save in her shut out for the Lakers, and her record moves to 3-4.
Mercyhurst will play again next on Wednesday at 4pm when they host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Mansfield.
