Volleyball Swept At Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst volleyball team suffered a 3-0 straight-set loss on the road to Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lakers (5-8, 0-2) lost its sets 20-25, 21-25, and 19-25 for its second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) loss of the season.
 
Katie Baird led the Lakers offensively with 12 kills on 24 attacks. She also added a game-high four service aces.
 
Shippensburg (9-5, 2-0) had just one run of more than three points for the entire match, but the compiled several runs of three points throughout the game put them in front.
 
Mercyhurst pulled within one at 14-15 in the first set before Shippensburg scored ten of the next 16 points to close the set. The Lakers' latest lead in the second set was 7-6 before the Raiders scored four of the next five to retake control.
 
In the last set, three straight Laker points to pulled the score to 12-14 followed by a 6-2 run by Shippensburg to pull away once again.
 
The Raiders had a .357 kill percentage compared to Mercyhurst's .207 for the match.
 
Mercyhurst returns to Erie to host Lock Haven in its next game on Friday, Sept. 29 beginning at 7:05 p.m.
