Volleyball Falls 0-3 To Millersville

MILLSERVILLE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst volleyball team dropped their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game of the season 0-3 against Millersville on Friday night.  The Lakers fall to a 5-7 overall record and slip a 0-1 PSAC record. Mercyhurst fell by scores of 23-25 in set one, 20-25 in set two, and 18-25 in set three.
 
Alyssa Zirnheld led the Lakers offense posting 11 kills, and two block assists. Shelby Chesko added six kills and three block assists. Leah Kern and Katie Baird each contributed four kills apiece. Makayla Mollé and Abby Rose led assists with 15 and 13 respectively, Mollé also contributed an ace. Freshman Hannah Vuylsteke contributed the most digs to the team with 20.
 
Lindsey Belvins led Millersville with 13 kills over the course of the game, followed closely by Erin Harman who posted 11.
 
Mercyhurst would come back from an early 4-0 deficit in set one to eventually knot the action at 13-13. Mercyhurst took its only lead of the set when they went up 17-16 on a Millersville attack error.  The teams entered into a back and forth until Millersville would grab 19-18 lead that they held on to outlast the Lakers.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 3-1 in set two lead to have Millersville come back to knot the action at 3-3. The scoring was tightly contest with no team gaining more than a three point lead over the other until Millersville jumped out to a 15-12 lead that the held onto to finish the set.  
 
During set three the teams were in a back and forth until the Millersville came out on top of an 8-8 which they utilized to play from the lead and win the game.
 
Mercyhurst will return to action tomorrow against PSAC competitor Shippensburg at 1 pm held on the campus of Shippensburg University.
