BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer improved to 2-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 road win over Bloomsburg Friday afternoon.
The Lakers entered the game 3-1 when scoring the game's first goal and they repeated that trend in the first half.
Hady Sarr finished his second goal of the season off a free kick from
Christopher Makengo. Mercyhrust led 1-0 in the 24
th minute.
Makengo showed up on the scoresheet again in the 54
th minute. After a Bloomsburg foul in the penalty area, Makengo scored his fourth of the season on a penalty kick to double the Lakers' lead.
Bloomsburg made things interesting with a goal in the 87
th minute by Mike Bazadona III, but the Lakers fired right back with the fifth goal of the season from
Fjodor van Kippersluis in the 88
th minute to end the game 3-1. Makengo recorded his second assist of the game on the play.
Mercyhurst held a stout advantage in scoring attempts with 20 total shots and 8 shots on target compared to Bloomsburg's 10 with 4 on goal. Makengo led the way for Mercyhurst with five total shots and three on goal in 90 minutes of play.
The Lakers' next game is set for Sunday, Sept. 24 against Pitt-Johnstown at Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m.
