ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost a 2-0 contest to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent (#6) Bloomsburg on Saturday.
The Lakers were led by
Christina Mertz,
Jessica David and
Nicolette Tomani each having one shot on goal.
Katie Ballew and
Clare Ahern each contributed a shot as well.
The Lakers and Huskies were deadlocked at a 0-0 standstill after the first half. MacKenna Mahan opened up scoring in the in the 37
th minute of play on a cross pass from Rachel Strockbine in front of the goal. Abby Suader extended the Huskies lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal.
Bloomsburg held the edge in both shots and corner kicks in both halves of the game, outshooting Mercyhurst 14-5 and having 9 corners to the 5 posted by the Lakers
Victoria Triaga was the losing goalie for Mercyhurst she posted six save throughout the contest and allowed two goals. Dana Sheply was the winning goalie as she had three saves in her shutout for Bloomsburg.
The Mercyhurst Lakers will return to action next on Wednesday at home against PSAC competitor Indiana (Pa.). The contest is set to start at 4 pm.
