ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team dropped a pair of games to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Edinboro, 9-8 in eight innings and 7-1, on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.

Game One: Edinboro 9, Mercyhurst 8 (8 inn.)
An RBI double by Edinboro's Theresa Fleckensten was the difference as the Fighting Scots took the lead on Fleckenstein's hit in the eighth before holding off Mercyhurst's rally attempt in the bottom half of the inning.
Cassandra Egelston led the Mercyhurst offense, going 3-for-5 with one double, a stolen base and three RBI.
Rachel DiBartolomeo also went 3-for-5 with a double, stolen base and RBI.
Meghan Maranto hit 2-for-4 with a homer, double and two RBI.
After Edinboro took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Lakers came right back in the bottom half as
Jolene Teller tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Mercyhurst then took its only lead -- a 2-1 advantage -- off an RBI bunt single by
Meredith Grimes.
Edinboro responded putting up three runs in the third and one in the fourth to secure a 5-2 lead before Egelston knotted the action at 5-5 in the fourth on a three run double to centerfield.
Mercyhurst and Edinboro traded runs through the next three innings, scoring two apiece in the fifth and one each in the sixth.
Maranto hit a two-run homer in the fifth to the the game at 7-7 in the fifth. Later, DiBartolomeo had an RBI double to tie the contest at 8-all in the sixth.
Mercyhurst threatened to score in the eighth inning as Egelston and DiBartolomeo had two-out singles, but Teller flied out to end the game.
Sarah Eschleman was the losing pitcher, working 3 1/3 innings of relief. Carly Nasca was the winning pitcher for Edinboro.
Game Two: Edinboro 7, Mercyhurst 1
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Lakers cut their deficit in half on an RBI single by
Meredith Grimes, but the visiting Scots quickly answered with a five-run fifth inning to forge the game's final score.
Jamie Ward led Mercyhurst's hitters with a 2-for-2 game. Egelston and
Emily Hair had doubles.
Amanda Metz was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst, throwing all seven innings. She gave up one run while scattering nine hits.
Anna Cochis was the losing pitcher.
The Lakers will play next Sunday on the road against California (Pa.) at 1 p.m.in PSAC action
