ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst softball team dropped a pair of one run games in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader against Seton Hill. The Lakers lost the first game 2-3 and dropped game two 1-2. Individual game recaps below.
Game One: Seton Hill 3, Mercyhurst 2
Julia Lang led the Lakers going 2-for-3 with a double, and a RBI.
Ellie Dougher went 1-for-3 and had a RBI.
Jamie Ward went 1-for-3 and hit a double.
Cassandra Egelston and
Meghan Maranto also went 1-for-3.
Mercyhurst opened up scoring in the second inning when Lang hit a double pushing the Lakers to a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hill responded in the fifth inning where they scored all three of their runs. Driving in runs from the sticks of Ashely Peril had a RBI on a single, and Paige Hertzog who drove in a pair of runs on a double.
Mercyhurst attempted to make a comeback in the fifth when Dougher hit a single driving in the Lakers second run, but came up short.
Anna Cochis was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she went the distance is now 8-9, recorded one strikeout, allowed no walks, scattered 11 hits and was charged with three runs.
Game Two: Seton Hill 2, Mercyhurst 1
Meghan Maranto went 3-for-3, and drove in the sole run of the game for Mercyhurst.
Rachel DiBartolomeo went 2-for-2 and had a double, while Lang went 1-for-3 and Dougher went 1-for-4.
Seton Hill (21-21, 12-6 PSAC West) took a 1-0 run in the first as Paige Hetzog hit a RBI single. The Griffins would extend their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a RBI single from Amanda Huff.
Meghan Maranto shrank the Griffins lead to one after she smacked a RBI single driving in DiBatolomeo in the sixth inning.
Mercyhurst (15-27-1, 6-12 PSAC West) was able to put the tying run on first in the bottom of the seventh but they were unable to mount a comeback.
Heather Nye was the losing pitcher for the Lakers she threw for seven full innings and recorded two strikeouts, allowed one walk, scattered eight hits and was charged with one earned run.
The Lakers will play again tomorrow in their last regular season game against Edinboro at 1 p.m. on the campus of Edinboro University.
