Softball Finishes Season With Split Against Edinboro

Edinboro, Pa. — The Mercyhurst softball team split a pair of high-scoring games against Pennsylvania State Athletic West Division competitior Edinboro. The Lakers captured game one, 15-7, before dropping game two, 18-11.
 
Game One: Mercyhurst 15, Edinboro 7 (6 inn.)
Rachel DiBartolomeo hit two solo homers, a double, and four RBI as she led the Lakers offense, going 4-for-5. Julie Lang had a double, four RBI and went 2-for-4 while Ellie Dougher went 4-for-5 and had one RBI. Meghan Maranto went 2-for-4 and had two RBI. Emily Hair added a double. 
 
DiBartolomo scored the first run of the game as she hit a homer during her first at bat. Jolene Teller reached on a fielder's choice and drove in the Lakers' second run. Maranto reached first on a error but drove in a run. Lang drove in two runs when she hit a double during her at bat, stretching the Laker lead to 5-0. Jamie Ward hit an RBI single to drive in the Lakers' sixth and final run of the inning. 
 
Maranto stretched the lead to 7-0 reached on a throwing error during her at bat allowing Cassandra Egelston to score. 
 
Edinboro would shrink Mercyhurst's lead by two when they earned a pair of runs on a two run homer in the second inning.
 
DiBartolomeo hit her second home run to open up the fourth inning. Maranto had an RBI single but advanced to second on the throw to push the lead to 9-2. Lang drove in a pair of runs on a single to the right side to wrap up the inning leading 11-2. 
 
In the fifth Edinboro earned two runs on a ground out double. 
 
Lang led off scoring for the Lakers in the sixth on a ground out double drive in a pair of runs. DiBartolomeo hit in two runs on a double to finish off the Lakers scoring. 
 
Edinboro was only able to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth unable to keep themselves alive ending the game. 
 
Anna Cochis was the winning pitcher moving to 8-10 pitched for six innings threw a strikeout, allowed a walk, scattered five hits and was charged with five earned runs. 
 
Game Two: Edinboro 18, Mercyhurst 11
Lang led the Lakers, hitting a three run homer in the fourth inning as she went 2-for-4. Maranto went 3-for-5 and had a double. Emily Hair went 3-for-4 while Lindsey Parese had a double and had a pair of RBI. Meredith Grimes added a double. 
 
Edinboro opened up, earning a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning. 
 
Lang responded when she answered reached on a error by the third baseman allowing Maranto to score, knotting the action at 1-1.
 
Edinboro (16-20, 7-13 PSAC West) had a large second inning when they pushed ahead by scoring six runs, on eight hits, leaving the Lakers at a 7-1 deficit. The Fighting Scots also amassed an additional four runs on a pair of homers in the third inning, stretching their run to 11-1.  
 
The Lakers came just short of a tying the contest when they pushed in nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Lang hit a three run homer during her first at bat in the fourth inning, pushing the Lakers to a 11-4 deficit. 
 
In the fifth the Lakers drove in six runs starting with Hair and Lang who hit RBI singles. Grimes and Parese both hit two-run doubles during their next at bats. 
 
Ediniboro pushed in five runs in the bottom of the fifth on home run, a two run double and a two run homer.
 
Mercyhurst (17-30-1, 7-13 PSAC West)  scored their last run in the top of the sixth, on a RBI single from Grimes. 
 
Edinboro cemented their victory with two runs in the seventh inning on a two run homer.
 
Samantha Weaver was the winning pitcher for Edinboro.
