CLARION, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst softball team swept a doubleheader against Clarion, 7-0 and 13-1, on Tuesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division action.

Game One: Mercyhurst 7, Clarion 0:
Rachel DiBartolomeo led the way for the Lakers going 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases.
Jolene Teller had a double and two RBI.

Mercyhurst struck first with three runs in the first inning. Teller hit a sacrifice fly, driving in the initial run. Errors contributed to the other two Laker runs in the inning.

The Lakers stretched their lead to 5-0 in the second inning with a pair of runs. Egelston had an RBI groundout and then Teller smacked an RBI double.

Grimes drove in the sixth run for the Lakers with an RBI groundout in the third.
Lindsey Parese scored the Lakers' final run on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Anna Cochis was the winning pitcher. She threw the seven-hit shutout, recording four strikeouts and zero walks. She scattered seven hits.

Game Two: Mercyhurst 13 Clarion 1 (5 inn.):
DiBartolomeo led the Lakers, going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Egelston and Teller also went 3-for-4 with three runs each. Egelston drove in three runs while Teller added two RBI.
Also for Mercyhurst,
Emily Hair went 2-for-3 and had two RBI.
Meredith Grimes scored two runs.

After two scoreless innings, DiBartolomeo had an RBI triple in the Lakers' three-run third inning. Hair added an RBI double.
Clarion scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third off of a RBI single, shrinking Mercyhurst's lead to 3-1.
Mercyhurst tacked on four more runs in the fourth; DiBartolomeo highlighted the inning with a two-run home run. Egelston added an RBI double and Hair had an RBI single.
During the Mercyhurst fifth, the Lakers scored six runs. Egelston and Teller had two-run singles.

Heather Nye was the winning pitcher for the Lakers. She had two strikeouts, allowed two walks and scattered seven hits. She was not charged with an earned run.
