Softball Splits With Indiana (Pa.)

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team split a doubleheader against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division competitor Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday. Individual game recaps below.
 
Game One: Indiana 3, Mercyhurst 1
A home run by Jolene Teller accounted for the Lakers' only run in support of pitcher Heather Nye.

Heather Nye was the losing pitcher. She went the distance, recording three strikeouts and zero walks while allowing three runs on seven hits.

Indiana opened up scoring in the third inning on an RBI double by Kaitlyn Beers before Teller knotted the score at 1-1 with a two-out homer in the fourth.

IUP took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth. Hannah Mercer had an RBI double and Kassie Kesneck provided an RBI single.

Lauren Zola was the winning pitcher, giving up one run on two hits. She pitched a complete game and totaled 10 strikeouts and three walks.

 
Game Two: Mercyhurst 6, Indiana 4
Julia Lang's solo home run sparked a six-run sixth inning for the Lakers, who took a 6-1 lead and held off the Crimson Hawks.

Rachel DiBartolomeo added a two-run single and Arainna Brone had an RBI during MU's sixth.

Emily Hair finished 2-for-3 while Cassandra Egelston went 2-for-4 for the Lakers. Ellie Dougher doubled.

Zola smashed a two-run double during the Hawks' three-run fifth, but the hosts were unable to muster any more runs.

Anna Cochis was the winning pitcher for the Lakers. She went the distance and was charged with three earned runs on nine hits.

The Lakers will play next when they host California (Pa.) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Softball Field.
