Softball Sweeps Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst softball team swept cross-town rival\ Gannon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader on Tuesday.

Individual game recaps are below.
 
Game One: Mercyhurst 5, Gannon 4:
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rachel DiBartolomeo scored on a wild pitch to end the game, which was resumed when the contest was suspended on Saturday. DiBartolomeo went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Jolene Teller had a grand slam on Saturday, staking the Lakers a 4-1 lead at the time. She finished 2-for-4.

Ellie Dougher went 2-for-3 with one run and two stolen bases.

Gannon opened up scoring in the first inning with one run before Teller smacked her grand slam.  

Gannon chipped away at the Laker lead with one run in the second and then two in the third.

When the game resumed on Tuesday, neither team plated a run until DiBartolomeo scored on Gannon pitcher Olivia Gumbita's errant throw. DiBartolomeo reached base with a leadoff single, stolen second base, moved to third on a Teller single and then scored while Emily Hair was at the blate.

Heather Nye was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst. She threw all seven innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts.

 
Game Two: Mercyhurst 5, Gannon 1
Ellie Dougher went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run and one RBI for the Mercyhurst offense. Jolene Teller went 2-for-3 and had a pair of RBI. Jamie Ward also went 2-for-3 with a run.

A Golden Knight error helped the Lakers take a 1-0 lead in the first inning and host Mercyhurst led the rest of the way.

In the fifth, Teller drove in a pair of runs with a single down the right-field line, pushing the Lakers to a 3-0 lead. An error on the play allowed another Laker run to score.

In the sixth, Dougher had an RBI single to push the Mercyhurst advantage to 5-0.

Gannon scored its only run of the game off of a RBI double from Autumn Smith.

Anna Cochis was the winning pitcher for Mercyhurst, throwing for the entirety of the game. She recorded three strikeouts, allowed no walks and scattered five hits.
 
The Mercyhurst softball team will make a change to their schedule and will face Indiana (Pa.) on the road instead of home on Wednesday. The PSAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
