SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Mercyhurst baseball team improved its non-conference record to 12-1 and its overall record to 23-2 with an 8-3 win over Notre Dame College on Tuesday afternoon. The game was a rescheduled affair from March 15 moved due to poor weather conditions.
The Lakers jumped out in front in the top of the first inning with three runs.
Cameron Balego's sacrifice fly brought in
Jimmy Latona followed by RBI-knocks from
Drew Delsignore and
Daniel Elliott.
Notre Dame battle back to tie the game 3-3 with a run in the third and two in the fifth, but the Lakers retook the lead thanks to Latona's three-run homer in the seventh inning. Latona finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Connor Ryan improved his record to 3-0 with a six-inning outing on the mound. He allowed seven hits and three earned runs while striking out four.
Mercyhurst added insurance runs in the ninth with a sacrifice fly from
Chris Gonzalez and a
Jimmy Standohar run scored on an error. Gonzalez was 3-for-3 for the game.
Delsignore added two doubles in his 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
The Lakers return to PSAC West Division action this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders against Clarion April 14-15.
