Men's Ice Hockey to Play Quarterfinals in West Point

Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals Matchup
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will head to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army for the Quarterfinals of the Atlantic Hockey Playoffs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if necessary. Games will start at 7:05 p.m.
First-Round Recap
  • Mercyhurst welcomed American International College to the Mercyhurst Ice Center on March 3 and 4 for the first-round of the Atlantic Hockey Playoffs and swept 4-3 and 5-0.
  • Goaltender Brandon Wildung recorded his second shutout of the year during the Lakers 5-0 win on Saturday.
Last Meeting
  • The Lakers and Black Knights met back in January in West Point for a weekend series where the Lakers won 3-1 on Friday before falling 4-1 on Saturday.
  • Jack Riley picked up one assist on the weekend and blocked seven shots in the defensive zone.
Scouting Army
  • Army earned a bye-week for the first-round with a 17-12-5 record putting them in third place in the Atlantic Hockey standings.
  • Leading the Black Knights roster is Conor Andrle with 13 goals and 24 points. Zach Evancho is next with 20 points. Tyler Pham leads Army in assists with 14 and is tied for third in points with Dominic Franco who both have 19 points.
  • In net the Black Knights have Parker Gahagen and Cole Bruns. Playing all but two games with a record of 15-11-4 is Gahagen. He has a 1.90 GAA and .936 save percentage.
Laker Lineup
  • Derek Barach recorded three goals and five points during the Lakers series against AIC to bring his total points to 36. Lester Lancaster tallied three assists in the first-round for a total of 22 points and Joseph Duszak recorded two assists and three points in the first-round for a total of 17 points.
  • Splitting time in net are Brandon Wildung and Colin DeAugustine. With the sweep of AIC, Wildung improved his season record to 9-11-2. He has a 2.96 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.
Atlantic Hockey Tournament Magic Moment
  • Earning one of the five Magic Moments from the First-Round was Wildung's 24 save shutout on Saturday. Seven of the 24 shots were while killing off four AIC power plays.
Riley Family
  • This playoff series will be extra special for Jack and Brendan Riley as they take on their Father's team.
  • With J. Riley on the Mercyhurst team the Lakers have only lost one game to Army.
Other Atlantic Hockey Matchups
  • #1 Canisius hosts #11 Niagara after Niagara defeated #6 RIT 2-1.
  • #2 Air Force hosts #8 Bentley after Bentley defeated #9 Sacred Heart 2-1.
  • #4 Robert Morris hosts #5 Holy Cross after a bye-week.
Next Up
  • The Semifinals will take place on Friday March 17 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
  • The Finals will take place the next night on Saturday March 18 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester.
  • For the Semifinals the highest remaining seed will faceoff against the lowest remaining seed and the second-highest remaining seed will matchup against the second-lowest remaining seed.
  • For the Finals the winner of each semifinal game will faceoff against each other.
