ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst baseball team scored double-digit runs for its third-straight game to trounce Notre Dame College (Ohio) 17-1 on Tuesday, March 28 at Mercyhurst University.
The game was a rescheduled game from March 21. The win was the 11
th straight for the Lakers (13-1).
Similar to the past weekend, the Lakers' offense scored runs early and often to build a big lead. Mercyhurst scored seven runs in the first inning, which included a lead-off home run by
Jimmy Latona and a two-run shot two batters later by
Cameron Balego, his third homer in the last three games.
The Lakers batted through the entire order in the frame. Latona had a two-run double in his second at bat. He finished 3-for-3 with his three first-inning runs batted in and upped his season batting average to .643 (27-for-42).
Mercyhurst added four more runs in the second inning, one in the third, four in the fourth, and two in the sixth while allowing the Falcons' lone run in the ninth inning. Lakers' batter compiled 15 total hits.
Sabatino DiNardo III and
Jimmy Standohar each belted their first home runs of the season. DiNardo's was a three-run shot in the second while Standohar's in the sixth was solo.
DiNardo joined Latona with a three-hit day that also saw him drive in four runs.
Chris Gonzalez was a third Laker with a three-hit day, finishing three-for-three.
Connor Ryan got the win in his first start of the season after pitching effectively through five innings. He allowed just four hits and walked two while striking out six.
The Lakers bullpen of
Jamie Lauria,
Jim Solano,
Drew Borowski, and
Josh Greggs combined to strike out seven and allowed just three hits in four innings.
Mercyhurst gets back to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action when they take on Seton Hill in two doubleheaders March 31 and April 1 both beginning at 1 p.m. Friday's doubleheader will be down in Greensburg, Pa. and Mercyhurst will host Saturday's twin bill.
