Men's Ice Hockey Hosts AIC in First-Round of Playoffs

The Matchup
  • The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team will begin the Atlantic Hockey Playoffs against American International College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if necessary. Games will start at 7:05 p.m.
Game Recap
  • Last Saturday Mercyhurst welcomed RIT to the Mercyhurst Ice Center and lost 7-1. Matthew Whittaker had the Lakers lone goal.
Last Meeting
  • During the regular season the Lakers and Yellow Jackets met for a two game series at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in October. The Yellow Jackets took the first game 5-3, before the Lakers came back with a 6-3 win the next night.
Scouting AIC          
  • The Yellow Jackets earned an overall record of 8-18-8 and a conference record of 7-14-7.
  • AIC finished off the regular season with a 1-1 tie and 2-1 overtime win to Army.
  • Blake Christensen led the Yellow Jackets roster with 20 points during the regular season. Dominik Florian was next with 19 points and Martin Mellberg and Hugo Reinhardt both had 18 points.
  • Splitting time in net are Zackarias Skog and Alex Murray. On top is Skog with a 4-10-6 record, 2.91 goals against average and .908 save percentage.
Laker Lineup
  • The Lakers acquired a 12-18-4 overall record and 11-13-4 conference record.
  • Derek Barach led the Lakers roster in assists (25) and in points with 31 during the regular season. Jonathan Charbonneau led the Lakers in goals with 14. Joey Duszak led the Laker freshmen in goals (3), assists (12) and points.
  • Between the pipes for Mercyhurst are Colin DeAugustine and Brandon Wildung. DeAugustine has earned a 5-7-2 record, 3.09 GAA and .913 save percentage while Wildung put forth a 7-11-2 record, 3.11 GAA and .908 save percentage.
This Weekend Around the Atlantic Hockey Association
  • #6 RIT hosts #11 Niagara University.
  • #8 Bentley hosts #9 Sacred Heart.
  • #1 Canisius, #2 Air Force, #3 Army, #4 Robert Morris and #5 Holy Cross each clinched a first-round bye.
Next Up
  • On March 10-12 the Quarterfinals will take place.
  • Canisius will host the lowest remaining seed.
  • Air Force with host the second-lowest remaining seed.
  • Army hosts the highest remaining seed from first round.
  • Robert Morris will host Holy Cross.
