ERIE, Pa. --
Derek Richards finished with four goals and one assist while
Keyan McQueen made five assists as the fifth-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team earned a 15-5 victory over Walsh in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at Tullio Field on Saturday.
James Crowe and
Kurtis Woodland added three goals apiece while
John Plaskey put in two.
Sam Crusha and
Oran Horn contributed one goal and two assists each.
Colin Greenway also had a goal for the Lakers (5-1, 2-0).
On defense,
Greg Weyl totaled five caused turnovers and four groundballs.
Brandon May added five groundballs and winning goalie
Matt Wells had one save.
In the faceoff circle, both
Joe Cerio and
Ryan Vitale went 8-for-12.
The visiting Cavaliers (0-5, 0-1) had a strong first quarter, taking a 3-2 lead through the first 15 minutes. Mercyhurst then outscored Walsh, 4-0, in the second quarter to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. That was the beginning of an 11-1 stretch for the Lakers, who led the rest of the way.
Bryan Crim led Walsh with three goals. Goaltender Dylan Ciolino had nine saves.
Mercyhurst outshot Walsh, 36-19, and held a 29-13 edge in groundballs and 16-8 edge in faceoffs.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 25, when they visit Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
