Men's Ice Hockey Falls in Game One to Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Mercyurst men's ice hockey team dropped the opener of its Atlantic Hockey Tournament quarterfinal by a 6-4 score against Army West Point on Friday.

Jonathan Charbonneau and Kyle Dutra recorded one goal and one assist each for the Lakers. Joseph Duszak and Stephen Hrehoriak also had goals. Single assists were credited to Derek Barach, Tommaso Bucci, Philippe Drouin, Jack Riley, Bryan Sienerth and Zach Todd.

The Lakers led 2-1 at one point before the Black Knights pushed past with three straight goals.

Duszak tied the contest at 1-1 with a power-play goal in the first period, receiving assists from Barach and Charbonneau.

Mercyhurst gained its only lead when Dutra scored early in the second. Sienerth and Bucci assisted the goal, which gave the Lakers their 2-1 lead.

Army came back with two goals in the second and took a 3-2 advantage into the third before going up 4-2.

Charbonneau closed the deficit to 4-3 with his goal as he received assists from Riley and Todd.

Army then scored twice, extending its advantage to 6-3, before Hrehoriak scored with 1:59 left in the game for Mercyhurst. The Lakers had pulled their goalie. Dutra and Drouin assisted the tally.

The Black Knights held a 42-41 shot advantage as winning goaltender Parker Gahagen finished with 37 saves.

Brendan Soucie (2g-1a) and Dominic Franco (1g-2a) were leading point-getters for the Knights.

Brandon Wildung started in goal for Mercyhurst and totaled 29 saves. Colin DeAugustine had seven stops in a relief effort.

The Lakers and Black Knights will meet again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
