ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team tied Sacred Heart, 2-2, during Atlantic Hockey play on Friday in front of 1,214 fans at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Jack Riley and
Taylor Best scored goals while
Zach Todd,
Derek Barach Matthew Whittaker and
Joseph Duszak had assists for Mercyhurst (11-13-4, 10-9-4).
Zach Tsekos and Justin Danforth scored for Sacred Heart (9-14-4, 7-12-2).
Riley scored his fifth goal of the season to put the Lakers on the board first late in the first period. Barach and Duszak tallied assists. Duszak passed the puck up to Barach who brought it past the blue line and around the net. He left it behind the net for Riley who wrapped it around the net and beat Sacred Heart goaltender Brett Magnus.
During the second period, Tsekos scored for Sacred Heart to tie the game at 1-1.
Best scored his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-1. Whittaker and Todd picked up assists. Whittaker passed the puck to Best who carried it to the goal and shot it into the top right corner of the net.
Danforth tied the game at 2-2 with 2:35 left in the third period.
The Lakers went 0-for-5 on the power play while the Pioneers were 0-for-4.
Mercyhurst goalie
Brandon Wildung and Sacred Heart goalie Brett Magnus had 32 saves each.
Both teams are back tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
