Lakers Conclude Regular Season With 4-0 Shutout Win

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team had its third shutout win of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Lakers beat the Rochester Institute of Technology 4-0 in the regular season finale for both squads.

The Lakers (15-17-2, 11-8-1) scored two goals less than three minutes apart in the second period. Jillian Skinner's seventh of the season was the initial score of the game at 4:21, followed by Sarah Hine's ninth of the season at 6:59.

Megan Whiddon earned her 15th assist on Skinner's goal, tied for the Lakers' team-high. Maggie Knott also picked up an assist the play while Jennifer MacAskill and Michele Robillard had helpers on Hine's tally.

Samantha Fieseler scored in the third period to give the Lakers a three-goal advantage with 8:48 left to play. Sam Isbell and Sarah Robello set Fieseler up for her third of the season.

Isbell added an empty-net goal with seven seconds remaining to put the final score at 4-0. Isbell finished the trip with two goals and two assists.

Mercyhurst posted 33 shots on goal and held R.I.T. (6-26-2, 4-14-2) to 20. Sarah McDonnell earned her second shutout of the season after making all 20 saves.

The win also pulled Lakers' coach Michael Sisti within one more win of the all-time Division I women's hockey wins total. Sisti now has 444 career wins, just seven behind Division I leader Katey Stone from Harvard. With Harvard's elimination from playoff contention this season, Sisti and the Lakers have an opportunity to pull even closer to the highest win total in Division I women's hockey.

After clinching the third seed in the CHA playoffs last evening, the Lakers will play sixth-seeded Lindenwood in the first round of the tournament. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 at the HarborCenter in Buffalo, N.Y. Additional CHA Tournament information will be provided later this week.
