Seniors Power Lakers To 5-1 Win In Home Finale

ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst senior women's ice hockey players Jillian Skinner and Megan Whiddon each scored once to help the Lakers in a 5-1 rout of Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Junior Jennifer MacAskill added a game-high two goals for the Lakers, each coming on the power play in the third period.

The game was the last home contest of the season for the Lakers and the last home game in Skinner, Whiddon, Taylor Accursi, and Paige Horton's careers.

Skinner's goal was the first for the Lakers. She scored on the power play to put them in the lead 17:19 into the first period. Rachael Smith and Maggie Knott picked up assists on the goal. The goal was Skinner's sixth for the season.

Whiddon followed up Skinner's goal with a score at 5:29 in the second period. Her fifth goal of the season was assisted by Accursi and Brooke Hartwick and marked her second goal of the weekend.

Michele Robillard joined in on the scoring action with her second of the season less than a minute later. She was set up nicely by a long stretch pass from Horton.

Lindenwood finally responded with a goal late in the second period to make it 3-1. Lions' leading-scorer Cierra Paisley netted her third of the season at 16:49.

Despite the Lions' score, the Lakers found their footing to establish dominance again in the third period. MacAskill scored two power play goals at 4:50 and 9:01 to lead to the eventual 5-1 final score. Samantha Feisler assisted MacAskill on both her goals, with Morgan Stacey and Céline Frappier also picking up helpers.

The Lakers remain in third place (19 points) in the College Hockey America (CHA) standings after picking up four points over the weekend. Penn State trails the Lakers in fourth-place at 18 points. Robert Morris and Syracuse own the top two spots.

Mercyhurst (13-17-2, 9-8-1) wraps up its regular season next weekend at R.I.T. The Lakers will play Friday, Feb. 24, at 6:05 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2:05 p.m.
