ERIE, Pa. --
Lorenzo Collier led Mercyhurst with 24 points and nine rebounds as the Laker men's basketball team defeated Edinboro, 81-71, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Durrell McDonald added 18 points while
John Majors put in 12.
H'ian Hale dished five assists and
Malcolm Walters made three steals for the Lakers (12-12, 10-10), who wrapped up a berth to the PSAC Tournament.
Edinboro had four scorers in double-figures: Sheldon Brogdon (17), Maceo Baston (16), Jaymon Mason (14) and Mike Beck (10). Jon Girvin added 13 rebounds and Mason had six assists.
Mercyhurst twice trailed by five points before taking a 36-34 lead into the second half.
The Lakers enjoyed a hot start to the second half: Walters hit a three-pointer and made a steal before Collier buried a three-pointer to help Mercyhurst to six quick points. That was the beginning of a 12-1 stretch in which Walters and Collier had five points apiece.
Mercyhurst widened the gap to 17 on three occasions before Edinboro pulled within nine, but that was as close as the visiting Fighting Scots got.
The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. PSAC contest against California (Pa.). The team will celebrate Senior Night.
