Lorenzo Collier scored 28 points and
Durrell McDonald finished with 24 as the Mercyhurst men's basketball team defeated Seton Hill, 85-80, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup at the Mercyhurst Athletic Cednter.
McDonald also compiled eight rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Lakers (11-12, 9-10) while
H'ian Hale made four steals.
Seton Hill's offense was led by a 33-point effort from Spencer Casson. Casson also had nine rebounds while Damjan Sredanovic, Nathan Davis and Fernando Salsamendi contributed 14, 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Seven lead changes highlighted the first half, which Mercyhurst finished with a 39-34 lead.
In the second period, the Lakers pushed their advantage to 57-47 before Seton Hill closed the gap to 63-60. At that point, McDonald scored eight points during a 13-5 stretch as Mercyhurst expanded the margin to 76-65.
Once again, the visiting Griffins (11-13, 8-12) closed the deficit to three points, at 76-73, but a three-pointer by Collier pushed the MU lead up to six.
During the final minute, Collier was 4 of 4 from the line while McDonald went 2 of 2 to hold off SHU.
The Lakers outrebounded Seton Hill, 38-35, and went 11 of 19 from three-point land (57.9 percent).
Mercyhurst will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. PSAC home contest against Edinboro.
