ERIE, Pa. – Sophomore Céline Frappier scored the go-ahead goal with 1:55 remaining and added an empty-net goal with a second left to help the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team overcome a two-goal third period deficit to take down seventh-ranked Ohio State Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
 
Additional Laker goals were scored by Sarah Hine in the first period, Nicole Guagliardo in the second, and Sam Isbell and Brooke Hartwick in the third.
 
The Lakers (7-11-2) trailed 4-2 with just over 6:30 remaining before mounting their comeback. Isbell scored with assists from Maggie Knott and Summer-Rae Dobson to cut the Laker deficit to one. After an Ohio State penalty with 5:21 on the clock, Hartwick cashed in on the power play to tie the game at four with 4:58 left. Knott picked up her second assist along with Samantha Fieseler.
 
With the score tied, Molly Blasen attempted to clear the puck from the defensive zone and moved it ahead to Isbell who deflected it in midair over the head of the Buckeye defense. Frappier chased it down and scored over the shoulders of OSU goaltender Kassidy Sauve to give Mercyhurst its first lead of the game at the 18:05 mark in the final period.
 
Frappier added an empty-net goal with a second left on the clock while fending off a 6-on-4 Ohio State power play.
 
Ohio State (12-4-4) scored twice in the first five minutes of the game to leap ahead. After a Mercyhurst timeout, Hine scored her second goal of the weekend at 6:57. Guagliardo followed by tying the game at two 8:13 into the second.
 
The Buckeye's responded with the next two goals before the Lakers rattled off four unanswered.
 
Sarah McDonnell got the win in her first start since Nov. 25. She made 25 saves and improved to 3-7-2 this season.
 
The Lakers enjoy the holiday break before getting back to action next calendar year. They'll travel to Bemidji State for a 6:07 p.m. CST start (7:07 EST) on Tuesday, Jan. 2 before facing off again Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 1:07 p.m. CST (2:07 EST).
