Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Mercyhurst women's hockey team lost its first game of the 2018 calendar year in a 2-1 overtime defeat on the road against Bemidji State Tuesday evening.
Callie Paddock scored the lone Laker goal in the second period with assists from Michelle Robillard and
Nicole Guagliardo. Paddock's score was her second goal of the season.
Bemidji State's Emily Bergland scored both of the Beavers' goals, including the game-winner in overtime.
Kennedy Blair made 28 saves in the loss and was named the game's second star. Her record now stands at 4-6-0 this season.
After a scoreless first period, Mercyhurst started the game's scoring at 2:07 in the second. Paddock scored in the center of the ice near the blue line.
A Laker penalty later in the period gave BSU a power-play chance to tie the game at 12:25. The Beavers finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play while Mercyhurst was held scoreless on three tries.
In overtime, the Lakers recorded the first shot of the period, but it was the only chance they mustered as BSU rattled off the next four shots. Bergland buried her second of the game 2:25 into the extra period.
Bemidji State held a 30-18 advantage in shots on goal while Mercyhurst had a slight 32-30 advantage in the face-off dot.
The Lakers face the Beavers again tomorrow at 2:07 EST to conclude their regular season non-conference schedule.
