Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Robert Morris

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to Robert Morris during Saturday's Atlantic Hockey contest at the Colonials Arena.
 
Jonathan Charbonneau recorded a goal and an assist while Taylor Best scored the other goal for Mercyhurst (7-8-2, 4-5-2). Joseph Duszak and Zach Todd had one assist each.
 
Brady Ferguson scored two goals while Timmy Moore, Michael Louria and Luke Lynch scored one goal each for Robert Morris (6-11-1, 6-7-1).
 
During the first period, Moore put Robert Morris on the board first at 7:47. Eric Israel and Ferguson had assists. Five minutes later, Louria extended the Colonials lead with assists from Moore and Ferguson.
 
With 47 seconds left in the first period, Best scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-1. Charbonneau added an assist.
 
During the second period, Mercyhurst capitalized on its two-man advantage to tie the game, 2-2. The power-play goal was scored by Charbonneau and assisted by Duszak and Todd.
 
Robert Morris then scored three unanswered goals.
 
One minute and twenty-three seconds into the third period, Ferguson scored his first goal of the game to break the tie and make it 3-2. Alex Tonge and Elias Ghantous had assists. Ferguson then scored his second goal of the game at 12:28 to extend the Colonials lead. Moore and Tonge recorded assists.
 
Lynch scored a short-handed, empty-net goal to seal the deal and give the Colonials their sixth win of the season.
 
The Lakers finished 1-for-7 on the power play while the Colonials went 0-for-4.
 
Brandon Wildung stopped 31 out of 35 shots on net for the Mercyhurst and Francis Marotte saved 35 out of 37 shots for Robert Morris.
 
The two teams are back in action Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center at 4:05 p.m.
