Men's Ice Hockey Welcomes Canisius College for Home Series

Setting the Stage
The Mercyhurst men's hockey team will welcome Canisius to the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Nov. 10-11 for a two-game Atlantic Hockey weekend series.
 
Last Weekend Recap
Mercyhurst split its weekend series against No. 17 Penn State, winning, 7-4, on Friday before falling, 7-5, the next night.
 
Previous Matchup
Last season, the Lakers and Golden Griffins met twice at the Harbor Center in Buffalo, N.Y., splitting the two games. On Nov. 25, Mercyhurst took the first game, 5-1. Then, on Feb. 23, Canisius blanked Mercyhurst, 4-0.
 
James Anderson, Kane Elliot, Joseph Duszak, Jonathan Charbonneau and Nathan Ferriero recorded goals in the win over Canisius. Laker goalie Colin DeAugustine had 39 saves.
 
All-Time Series
Mercyhurst holds a 42-34-10 advantage over Canisius, including a 29-27-9 edge in Division I meetings.
              
Scouting Canisius
The Golden Griffins are coming into the weekend with a with a 4-3-1 overall record and 4-3-0 mark in Atlantic Hockey.
 
Last weekend, Canisius split a Saturday/Sunday series with Sacred Heart, losing, 6-2, and then winning, 3-2.
 
Dylan McLaughlin is leading the Griffs' roster with nine points, including a team-high six assists. Nick Hutchison is the top goal-scorer with four tallies.

Daniel Urbani and Simon Hofley have split time in net. Urbani has a 1-2-1 record with a 3.49 goals-against average and .894 save percentage. Hofley is 2-1-0 record with a 2.43 GAA and .908 save percentage.
 
Trio Leading the Lakers
Taylor Best, Les Lancaster and Derek Barach are leading the Lakers' roster with 10 points each.
 
Streaking
Jack Riley, Taylor Best and Joshua Lammon are riding three-game point streaks. During the stretch, Best has six points (2g-4a), Riley has four points (2g-2a) and Lammon has three (2g,a).
 
Top Line Thriller
The Lakers' top offensive line, Riley, Barach and Charbonneau, threw together a 13-point weekend against Penn State, totaling three goals and 10 assists.
 
AHA Defensive Player of the Week
Zach Todd contributed heavily on the score sheet last weekend against Penn State and was named the AHA Defensive Player of the Week. He recorded three goals and added two assists for a five-point weekend.
 
100-Save Wildung
Net-minder Brandon Wildung came up with two 50-save nights against Penn State. This season, he has a 2.85 GAA and .925 save percentage.
 
Laker Firsts
Quinn Wichers recorded his first collegiate point with an assist during the Lakers' 7-5 loss against Penn State on Saturday.
 
Special Teams Moving Up
Mercyhurst is 32.6 percent on the power play, ranking second in the nation. On the penalty kill, the Lakers are 84.4 percent, moving to 19th in the nation.

Coaches Corner
"Canisius is a very good team that had a great year last year and are off to a pretty solid start this year," said head coach Rick Gotkin. "But we like our team in a lot of ways, so it should be a great weekend of exciting college hockey."

Next Up
The Lakers have a weekend off before heading to Madison, Wis., on Nov. 25-26 to take on the University of Wisconsin. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.
