Women's Basketball Loses In Non-Conference Action To Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team fell to Walsh, 74-50, in non-conference action on Monday.
 
Maria Lapertosa and Amber Renz led Mercyhurst (2-4) with 12 points each. Emilee Norris was the top rebounder for the Lakers, grabbing seven, Lapertosa claimed six.
 
Walsh was led by Alex Hochstedler, who posted 21 points while Mayci Sales added 14 and Holly Grober contributed 11. Sales led rebounds with eight.
 
Walsh never trailed, grabbing an early 4-0 lead with baskets from Sales and Grober in the first two minutes of play.
 
Lauren Lapertosa brought the trailing Lakers within 10-8 on a layup with 4 1/2 minutes remaining the first quarter, but that was as close as the Lakers would get.
 
Walsh held an edge at the glass, leading rebounds 42-32.
 
The Lakers went 21-for-52 (40.4%) from the field, 3-for-15 (20%) from three point land, and 5-for-11 (45.5%) from the free-throw line. Walsh outshot Mercyhurst, going 30-for-67 (44.8%) from the field, 8-for-31 (25-8%) from beyond the arc, and 6-for-12 (50%) from the free-throw line.
 
The Lakers will play next when they host Daemen in non-conference action on Thursday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
