Women's Basketball Earns Last Second Victory Off Of Sidwell's Free Throws

Erie, Pa. – Kori Sidwell hit back-to-back free throws with 4.3 seconds on the clock to push the Mercyhurst women's basketball team to a 60-59 victory over Daemen on Thursday in non-conference action at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
Amber Renz led the Mercyhurst offense with 20 points while Emilee Norris added 12 points, a pair of blocks and six rebounds.
 
Sarah Saba led the Wildcats with a double-double, finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Young also had a double, contributing 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Sydney Jones had 11 points.
 
Mercyhurst (3-4) led throughout the majority of the game, losing the lead only once during the contest with 18 seconds left in regulation. Saba hit a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining, setting the stage for Sidwell, who was fouled on Mercyhurst's final possession before sinking two freebies herself.
 
Mercyhurst held an edge on bench points, leading the category, 30-7. Daemen held the rebound edge, 48-29.
 
Mercyhurst went 23-for-52 (44.2%) from the field, 7-19 (36.8%) from beyond the arc, and 7-for-8 at the free throw line (87.5%).
 
The Lakers will compete next on Saturday when they travel to take on Kutztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at 1 p.m.
