Setting the Stage
The Mercyhurst men's hockey team is set for a non-conference weekend series matchup at Penn State University on November 3-4.
 
Last Weekend Recap
Mercyhurst split a weekend series matchup at Bentley University. On Friday, the Lakers fell 4-3 before winning their first Atlantic Hockey game of the season on Saturday 2-0.
 
Previous Matchup
Last season, 2016-17, the Lakers welcomed the Nittany Lions to the Erie Insurance Arena for the Snowtown Throwdown. The Nittany Lions left with a 7-0 victory.
 
Scouting Penn State
Penn State is coming into the weekend with a 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 Big Ten record.
 
Denis Smirnov is leading the Nittany Lions roster with five goals and 11 points. He also is leading the nation in game winning goals with three. Cole Hults and Andrew Sturtz are close behind with seven points each.
 
In net, Peyton Jones has started seven games while recording a 4-3-0 record with a 3.60 goals against average and .879 save percentage.
 
Wildung Shutout
Brandon Wildung recorded his fourth shutout on Saturday, stopping 24 shots in net.
 
During the weekend series against Bentley, he recorded 63 saves, improving his overall record to 2-2-2.
 
Duszak on Streak
Joseph Duszak is riding a four-game point streak with four assists in four games.
 
Lancaster Topping the Roster
Les Lancaster is leading the Lakers in assists (5) and in points with six.
 
Taylor Best, Derek Barach, Jack Riley and Duszak are close behind with five points each.
 
Successful Special Teams
Mercyhurst is 32.4% on the power play, ranking them fourth in the nation and first overall in Atlantic Hockey. On the penalty kill, they are 83.3% putting them at 27th in the nation and fifth in Atlantic Hockey.
 
Next Up
The Lakers are back at home with a weekend series against Canisius College on November 10-11. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. both nights.
