Field Hockey Falls To #9 Bloomsburg On Road

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst field hockey team fell 1-3 against (#9) Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday. Mercyhurst (5-6, 1-3 PSAC) has dropped their second game to Bloomsburg this season.
 
Nicolette Tomani scored the lone goal for Mercyhurst when she found net at the 45-minute. Tomani, assisted by Katie Ballew, scored off of a rebound after Bloomsburg's goalie had made an initial save, shrinking the Huskies' lead to 1-2. This goal marks Tomani's seventh goal of the season.
 
Bloomsburg saw goal production from two different Huskies as Willow Perkins opened up scoring in the 16th minute of play. Geneka Mahan extended Bloomsburg's lead to 2-0 at the 22-minute mark. Mahan scored the game's last goal as she put one in the net during the 54th minute of play.
 
 Both teams were closely matched in shots with Bloomsburg holding a minor edge posting 14 shots to the 13 recorded by Mercyhurst. The Lakers were able to put eight of 13 shots on goal. Mercyhurst stepped up the offensive pressure in the second half as they posted eight shots compared to the five in the first half. Bloomsburg went from 10 shots in the first half to just four in the second, registering seven of their 14 were on goal.
 
Mercyhurst held an edge in penalty corners earing 11 to the nine earned by Bloomsburg.
 
Victoria Triaga was the losing goalie for Mercyhurst she played all 70 minutes for the Lakers, she posted three saves but allowed three goals in her time in net. Triaga's record moves to 5-6 overall.
 
The Lakers will return to action next when they face Indiana (Pa.) in conference action Wednesday at 4 pm, the contest will be held on the campus of Indiana University.
