Five Unanswered Goals Spell Defeat For Lakers

INDIANA, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team scored first but lost after five-unanswered goals scored by Indiana (Pa.) in a 5-1 road loss Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Lakers (4-9-4) drop to 3-9-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) games this season. The Crimson Hawks (12-4) improved to 11-4.
 
Mercyhurst broke the ice with the game's first goal in the 13th minute. Laia Santos scored her second of the season on a shot from 25 yards out. The Lakers lead would be short-lived as IUP scored three minutes later to tie the game at one before rattling off four more goals to win 5-1.
 
Maggie Hilton tied a game-high with four shots, two which were on goal. Maia Russo added three shots which were all on goal, while Santo had two shots both go on target.
 
IUP had 14 total shots and 11 shots on goal to the Lakers 11 total shots with nine on goal.
 
Mercyhurst concludes its season with a matchup at home this Saturday against Mansfield. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
