ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team took down Mansfield 6-1 on Saturday afternoon, ending its 2017 schedule.
The Lakers (5-9-4) six goals mark their highest single-game total of the season. Their previous high was three back on Sept. 28 against Pitt-Johnstown.
All the Lakers' goals were scored by different players. Mercyhurst took a 3-0 lead into the first half with goals from
Maya Fanazini,
Emilie Bock, and
Maya Bauer.
In the second half,
Maggie Hilton,
Jinan Abdalah, and
Claire Ritzmann added goals to bring the Lakers total to 6. Mansfield's Bria Bittiger scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers (0-15-1) in the second half.
Mercyhurst had plenty of offensive opportunities with 22 shots on goal. They also had 10 corner kicks.
The Lakers finish their 2017 season with five wins. Senior
Anja Korte was honored prior to the game and took the game's opening kickoff despite a season-ending injury.
