ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst field hockey team fell 1-0 a shootout to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Seton Hill on Wednesday. The Lakers slip to a 7-10 overall record while falling to 2-7 record in the PSAC.
After two halves of regulation and two overtime periods the score remained knotted at 0-0, the Lakers and Griffins entered a shootout. Despite made attempts from the sticks of
Bryna Cook,
Alexis Skibitsky, and
Clare Ahern, the Lakers were unable to hold off Seton Hill. Seton Hill's Ashley Curnow scored the game winning goal for the Griffins pushing them a 4-3 advantage in the shootout to win the game. Kayla Chapman, Molly Childress, and Caitlin Bray all made attempts for Seton Hill.
The Lakers peppered the Seton Hill goal mustering 25 shots through regulation and both periods of overtime, Seton Hill posted eight shots. Mercyhurst led in shots through all four periods of play out shooting Seton Hill 5-4 in the first half, 4-2 in the second half, 9-2 in the first overtime, and 7-0 in the second overtime. Mercyhurst also recorded more corners than Seton Hill posting 18 to the 8 awarded by the Griffins.
Victoria Triaga was the losing goalie for the contest she allowed no goals, and contributed three saves for the Lakers during her 90 minutes in the cage.
The Lakers will play next when they host (#1) Shippensburg on Saturday at 1 pm on Tulio Field.
