ERIE, Pa. –
Katie Lechner scored twice in field hockey's 4-3 loss to (#1) Shippensburg on Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action. Mercyhurst (7-11, 2-8) went on a hot streak during the second half scoring three unanswered goals to end the contest, bringing the trailing Lakers to a 4-3 deficit. Despite their second half explosion the Lakers were unable to knot the action, leaving Shippensburg to win the game.
Lechner scored back to back goals ten minutes apart in the 55
th and 65
th minute of play, her first goal was assisted by
Taylor Balser.
Nicolette Tomani scored the first goal for the Lakers in the 46 minute of play, she was assisted by
Clare Ahern.
Victoria Triaga was the losing goalie for the Lakers she posted 11 saves and allowed 4 goals during her 70 minutes in the cage for Mercyhurst, her record moves to 7-11.
Shippensburg (14-3, 9-1) led 3-0 at the end of the first of half and would lead by as much as 4-0. Shippensburg received goals from the sticks of Lauren Zengulis, Kylie Huffman, Madison Scarr, and Jazmin Petrantonio. Brooke Sheibley, assisted Zengulis and Scarr's goals.
Shippensburg held an edge in shots, outshooting Mercyhurst 25-8, the Raiders also recorded 14 corner kicks to the 5 received by Mercyhurst.
Mercyhurst had seven times more shots from the first to second half recording one shot in the first half and seven shots in the second half. The Lakers recorded all five of their corners in the second half.
