SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team dropped another close decision to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Shippensburg 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers (4-8-4) drop to 3-8-3 in PSAC play while the Raiders (6-10-1) improve to 5-10.
Down one in the second half, Mercyhurst substitute
Emma Scali scored her first career goal on a header from five yards out.
Maya Bauer crossed the ball to Scali to pick up the assist and the Lakers tied the game 1-1 in the 75
th minute.
Shippensburg bounced back ahead in the 80
th minute on Izzy Weigel's ninth goal of the season. Mercyhurst had a few chances to tie the game, including
Laia Santos' shot in the 89
th minute which hit the crossbar.
Maya Fanazini led the Lakers with three of Mercyhurst's 10 shots. Scali had two shots, both of which were on goal, in her 25 minutes of action.
The Lakers look to bounce back Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) for another conference game starting at 4 p.m.
