Lakers Lose Tough One In Final Second of OT

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team came back from a goal down in the second period to tie the game, but lost with one second on the clock in overtime, falling 4-3 to fifth-ranked Colgate Friday evening.
 
The Lakers (1-5-1) trailed 3-2 14:43 into the second period before Jennifer MacAskill netted her third of the season at 18:43 to tie the game. After a scoreless third period, both teams headed to overtime, where Jessie Eldridge scored her second of the night with one tick left on the clock to keep Colgate undefeated (5-0-0).
 
Vilma Tanskanen scored her second goal in a Laker sweater unassisted at 5:22 in the first period to give the Lakers in the early advantage.
 
The Raiders bounced back with two goals in the first and second periods before freshman K.K. Thiessen netted her first career goal to tie the game at 7:23 in the second. Her goal was assisted by Molly Blasen and Brooke Hartwick.
 
Mercyhurst held Colgate's special teams scoreless for the game, nullifying all four Raider power plays, including one in the overtime period.
 
Kennedy Blair stopped 36 shots in her second-straight start in goal.
 
The Lakers look to bounce back in a rematch with the Raiders tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
