Men's Ice Hockey Welcomes Ferris State For Snowtown Throwdown At Erie Insurance Arena

The Matchup
The Mercyhurst men's hockey team welcomes Ferris State University for the third SnowTown ThrowDown on October 20-21 at the Erie Insurance Arena.
 
Last Time Out
The Lakers are coming out of a weekend series against Atlantic Hockey opponent Holy Cross. The Lakers and Crusaders tied both games, 1-1 on Friday and 4-4 on Saturday.
 
Previous Matchup
The Lakers and Bulldogs last meeting was during the 2013-14 season, when the Lakers fell 3-2.

Ferris State University holds a 6-0-1 all-time advantage.
 
Snowtown Throwdown History
Mercyhurst and the Erie Insurance Arena held the first Snowtown Throwdown during the 2014-15 season when Mercyhurst took on Ohio State. This year, the Lakers participate in the third SnowTown ThrowDown, as the second was played during the 2016-17 season against Penn State. The Lakers in Throwdown games.
 
Scouting Ferris State
The Bulldogs have a 1-3 overall record and 0-2 conference record so far this season.
 
Ferris State is coming off of a weekend series against Northern Michigan, where they fell 3-2 and 1-0.
 
The Bulldogs are coming into the season with four freshmen and two NCAA transfers.
 
Darren Smith and Justin Kapelmaster have split time in net, playing two games each. Smith has earned a 3.50 goals against average and .892 save percentage while Kapelmaster has put up a 2.54 GAA and .915 save percentage.
 
Laker Lineup
Jack Riley, Jonathan Charbonneau, Nathan Ferriero, Derek Barach and Taylor Best all scored their first goals of the season during the Lakers' weekend series against Holy Cross.
 
Between the pipes, Brandon Wildung stopped 60 out of 65 shots that he faced against Holy Cross.
 
Players to Watch
For Mercyhurst:

Riley (1g, 1a), Barach (1g, 3a) and Charbonneau (1g, 1a) are all riding two game point streaks.
 
For Ferris State:
Corey Mackin returns has one of the Bulldogs top scorers from last season as he was runner-up with 13 goals and 26 points. He currently has three assists on the season.
 
Mitch Maloney also returns as a top scorer from last season where he recorded 12 goals and 20 points. He has two goals and three points on the season.
 
Coaches Corner
"It's always exciting," said Head Coach Rick Gotkin. "Having Ferris State University in town is going to be a challenge for us and I know they are going to be two great games. Our players are looking forward to it, so I think it's going to be a great and exciting weekend of college hockey."
 
Next Up
Mercyhurst heads to Waltham, Mass., to take on AHA opponent Bentley University on October 27-28. Puck drops at 7:05p.m. both nights.
