ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's soccer team enjoyed its first multi-goal win since Sept. 30 in a 5-0 victory over Slippery Rock Wednesday afternoon at Mercyhurst soccer field.
Mercyhurst (10-4) improves to 6-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play and now sits in a three-way tie in the conference standings for third place.
The Lakers opened the scoring with a
Fjodor van Kippersluis penalty kick in the 23rd minute after a handball in the box. Just before halftime, the Lakers doubled their lead when
Connor Wilkinson scored on a nice feed from
Pat Darby in the 44th minute.
Mercyhurst continued to put the pressure on early in the second half, when Wilkinson set up
Pablo Vela for his first goal as a Laker in the 47th minute.
Michael Blancato netted his second goal of the season on a crafty touch-pass from van Kippersluis in the 62nd minute. Substitute
Franco Soldati Lopez scored his first Laker goal in the 67th minute, also assisted by van Kippersluis.
The Lakers hunt for a PSAC-postseason berth continues with a road test this Saturday, Oct. 21 at Shippensburg. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
